Apple Pay and Google Pay in Uzbekistan: Supported Banks and How to Accept Them on Your Website
Contents

Since 27 October, cards from Uzbek banks can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay. Which banks and cards are supported, whether Humo and Uzcard work, whether you can pay on websites and what a business needs to accept these payments.

On 27 October 2026, people in Uzbekistan started adding cards from local banks to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. A week earlier, on 19 October, a Google representative announced the launch of Google Pay at a digital technology panel in Samarkand. Apple has made no official statement, and the Central Bank has not commented on the launch yet. Even so, cards are being added to the wallets, and according to media reports, phone payments at the till go through. Below we look at which banks and cards are already supported, whether you can pay this way on websites and in apps, and what a business needs to accept these payments itself.

Which banks and cards support Apple Pay and Google Pay

According to Spot.uz and UzNews, as of 27 October eight banks support Apple Pay and nine support Google Pay. For Apple Pay, the table shows which cards can be added to the wallet.

For Google Pay, the sources do not always say which card types work: some banks support only Visa, others Mastercard as well.

Humo and Uzcard cards are not on these lists yet. The Central Bank, the banks and both payment systems are working on tokenization so that national cards can be added to the wallets too, but no dates have been announced. The lists change, so before relying on a particular card, check it in your bank's app.

How to add a card and pay with your phone

On an iPhone, you add the card in the Wallet app and confirm it with an SMS code or in your bank's app. On Android, you add the card to Google Wallet or straight from your bank's app if the bank supports that. To pay at the till, an Android phone needs NFC.

From there it works like a contactless card: you hold your phone or watch to the terminal and confirm the purchase with Face ID, a fingerprint or your phone's passcode. According to Spot.uz, the services are still in a test phase, so glitches are possible. Keep a regular card with you in case a payment is declined.

Can you pay with Apple Pay and Google Pay on websites and in apps

Yes, but only where the seller has enabled this payment method. Google's support page lists Uzbekistan among the countries where Google Pay works on websites and in apps, with a condition: only at sellers that support the feature. If a website shows only the usual form for entering a card number, the shop has not added the button.

Online acceptance of these payments started before local cards could be added to the wallets. On 16 September 2026, Octobank announced that it had enabled Apple Pay and Google Pay for its internet acquiring partners. Uzbekistan Airways and Centrum Air were the first to connect, so passengers can pay for tickets with a wallet. While local cards could not be added to the wallets, this option was used mainly by holders of foreign cards.

For the buyer, the main difference is convenience. There is no need to type the card number on every website, and the payment is confirmed on the phone. The payment uses a token instead of the real card number: according to Octobank, the actual card details are not passed to the seller.

How to connect Apple Pay and Google Pay to your website

The website does not process the payment itself. The acquiring bank or payment provider processes it, while the site shows the button and passes on the payment details. So connecting starts with a conversation with whoever already accepts your payments.

  1. Ask your acquirer or payment provider whether it supports Apple Pay and Google Pay for online payments, on what terms and with what fee. If it does not, find out which banks already offer it. Terms and fees differ between banks, so compare them in advance.
  2. Check your website. It needs to run on HTTPS and have an up-to-date checkout page. Apple Pay usually requires you to verify your domain through the provider or an Apple developer account. The exact steps depend on the provider you choose.
  3. Add the buttons to the checkout page and the app. Apple and Google have rules for how the buttons look: use the official versions from their documentation rather than drawing your own.
  4. Keep your other payment methods. Until Humo and Uzcard work in the wallets, most of your customers will pay as before: with Payme, Click, Uzum, UzQR or a card on the checkout page. Put the new button next to them.
  5. Test payments on real devices: an iPhone in Safari, an Android phone in Chrome and your mobile app, if you have one. Check refunds and how the payment reaches your accounting and CRM.

If you have a mobile app, the payment button has to be added there too, followed by an update in the App Store and Google Play. Allow time for the stores to review the app.

Is it worth connecting right now

It makes sense first for businesses with many customers who pay with Visa and Mastercard: hotels, tour operators, air and rail tickets, delivery services, services for expats and online shops with foreign customers. For them, the button removes two hassles at once: typing the card number and going through confirmation on an unfamiliar website.

If almost all your customers pay with Humo and Uzcard, there is no rush. It is enough to ask your acquirer when support will arrive and come back to the question once national cards can be added to the wallets. To avoid rebuilding your checkout page twice, leave room on it for new payment methods from the start.

Frequently asked questions

Do Apple Pay and Google Pay work with Humo and Uzcard cards?

Not yet. As of late October 2026, the wallets accept Visa and Mastercard cards from participating banks. Work on supporting national cards is under way, but no dates have been announced.

Do I need a new terminal to accept phone payments in my shop?

A phone payment goes through like a contactless card payment. If your terminal already accepts contactless Visa and Mastercard, that is usually enough. Check with the bank that issued your terminal for a definite answer.

How much does it cost to accept Apple Pay and Google Pay?

The fee is set by the acquiring bank or payment provider and depends on your contract. We found no public rates specifically for these wallets, so ask your bank.

Is it safe to pay this way online?

The purchase is confirmed with Face ID, a fingerprint or the phone's passcode, and the seller receives a token instead of the card number. This lowers the risk of card details leaking from a shop's website. Fraudulent websites and phishing links have not gone away, so check the website address before you pay.
